Specialty paper machines

Specialty paper machines are specialized equipment used to produce paper with special properties (such as oil resistance, water resistance, and high-temperature resistance). They meet customized needs for food packaging, labeling, and other applications through special processes (such as coating and lamination).

Definition and Technical Characteristics

The core difference between specialty paper machines and ordinary paper machines lies in their adaptability to small-batch, highly customized production:

1.Equipment Characteristics:

They adopt a small machine design, with a width typically less than 10 meters (ordinary paper machines can reach 11 meters),  and a lower machine speed (5-1200m/min) to flexibly switch between different paper types.

They integrate special process modules, such as coating devices and inclined wire forming devices, supporting the addition of functional raw materials (such as oil-resistant coatings).

2.Technical Barriers:

High-precision control of tension and basis weight (15-100g/m²) is required; the production equipment has strong know-how attributes; and R&D investment is high.

Significant breakthroughs in domestic production, such as cordless paper feeding technology enabling full-width start-up in 10 minutes, reducing downtime losses.

Working Principle and Application Areas

1.Specialty Paper Machines Core Process:

The pulp is evenly distributed in the headbox, dewatered and shaped through a slanted wire or stacked wire (ordinary paper machines mostly use long wire), the press section enhances strength, and after drying in the drying section, a special functional layer is coated/laminated.

Key Innovations: Such as leading automatic paper feeding system, which eliminates the need for manual paper feeding ropes.

2.Application Scenarios:

Food Packaging: Oil-proof paper bowls, thermal paper takeout forms (accounting for over 30% of demand).

Industrial Sector: Glassine paper (label substrate), electrolytic capacitor paper, medical non-woven fabric.

Emerging Markets: Waterproof packaging for e-commerce logistics, environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic products (such as paper straws).

Specialty Paper Machines Performance Range:

Width: 300mm-8660mm (Minimum 300mm for testing machines, maximum 8660mm for industrial machines).

Machine Speed: 5-1200m/min (Low speed 5-35m/min for testing machines, up to 1200m/min for high-speed machines).

Production Capacity: 1800 tons per day per machine.
